Over the next year, I will be traveling throughout East Africa to discover, document, and share stories of remarkable social entrepreneurs, enterprises and innovations that are redefining poverty alleviation. Through visual journalism and media, I seek to teach people about the growing "Base of the Pyramid" movement and the viable, market-based alternatives to traditional aid.
I will highlight local entrepreneurs & enterprises, issues of energy and technology poverty, and the new models of development changing the way people approach poverty. While based in Dar Es Salaam, Tanzania working to develop micro-businesses that will support a free secondary boarding school for orphans, I will be traveling throughout the region seeking these stories as part of a broader photo-journalistic piece.
In addition to producing content on The (BoP) Project blog (thebopproject.net), and returning with a full photo-essay to share with galleries and interested publications, I seek to contribute to various other blogs, publications, websites, and organizations dealing with these issues throughout my journey.
